Tonje Paus (b. 1990) works with modeled porcelain. She produces familiar, everyday functional objects that often derive their value solely from their functionality: without the function, the object is worthless. In the art world, it's often the opposite. Paus is curious about the expectations we have for the objects that surround us, but also what actually makes an object what we perceive it to be. Many of the objects shown in the exhibition were originally made of cheap materials with low status, such as plastic and rubber. Porcelain, on the other hand, is a precious and highly durable material. By reproducing these mundane objects in porcelain, she will play with our perception of them and shed light on the materialism we are all consumed by.

Tonje held and exhibition at SKOG alongside Ane Barstad Solvang called “All you want“. More information about the exhibition can be here.
