Mari Ulland

Mari Ulland (b.1980) works with textiles employing technique, precision, and construction. The system as a tool often frames their projects: Textile grids construct landscapes and sculptures. Layers upon layers are arranged in piles and folds. The installations are structures that generate movement in perspective and in color. The works are shaped within the exhibition space, utilizing the architectural qualities of the location as both resistance and inspiration. The pieces are temporary and unique to the exhibition. Their weaving starts from fundamental techniques, seeking a distinctiveness free from traditional use.
